  • Breakfast Sandwich: This Will Become Your New Go To

Hey y’all! Today we come with another one. A delicious breakfast sandwich that once you try it, you will see why it will become your new go to. This is my go-to breakfast sandwich recipe, that I make at least twice a week, because it is the bomb. I love how it tastes and how simple it is to make. Hope you get to enjoy this delicious sandwich with your friends and family.

Why will it be your new go to? What makes it special?

This breakfast sandwich is similar to a b.l.a.t but with no tomatoes. The special effects come with the added Swiss cheese and a special sauce. My special sauce is called the aji amarillo sauce, and it gives the sandwich a more elevated and savory delicacy that you will very much enjoy. Click here to learn how to make the aji amarillo sauce at home and have it prepared prior to making the breakfast sandwich. You can pair this sauce not only with this sandwich but any meal that requires a creamy spread. Make it you won’t regret it. Each layer of flavor makes this sandwich absolutely delicious, try it and let me know how much you like it. Enjoy!

    Ingredients :

    • 2 slices of Sourdough Bread
    • 4 slices of Bacon (Any bacon of your choice).
    • Lettuce
    • 2 slices of Swiss cheese
    • ¼ of Avocado Paste (Click here to learn how to make the avocado paste).
    • Aji Amarillo sauce (Click here to learn how to m e the aji amarillo sauce).

    Preparation:

    • Take your 2 slices of bread and put the 2 slices of Swiss cheese on top.
    • Put 2 slices of sourdough bread in the oven for 1 minute.
    • Then, add 4 slices of bacon into the oven for 1 minute as well.
    • While the bread and bacon are in the oven you should be preparing the avocado paste.
    • Once you have the avocado paste ready, take out the bread and bacon out of the oven and get ready to prepare the breakfast sandwich.
    • Take the avocado paste and spread it out in one of the slices of bread.
    • Then put the slices of bacon on top and add the lettuce.
    • Add the aji amarillo sauce to the other slice of bread and put it on top of the rest of the sandwich.
    • Once the breakfast sandwich is ready, take a knife, cut it in half and enjoy!
  • Habana Outpost: Taste the Best of Mexico and Cuba

    Want another bite?

A shrimp bowl on the left and a chicken bowl on the right. Both served with a rice & beans. From Habana Outpost

Going down Fort Greene in Brooklyn lies a mouthwatering Mexican and Cuban Restaurant. Habana Outpost, coated in a neon lime green. Immediately when you walk the interior is gorgeous. Brick lined walls covered in bright graffiti art. There was two options for seating to choose between. The first was picnic benches outside (which was definitely a no go in late October) and the booths inside. The ordering system is a bit intriguing. You order your food inside but then go to the back of the restaurant to pick up your meal from what seems to be a food truck. My videos don’t show any wheels but some photos from the web clearly show a food truck.

Now while I don’t remember exactly what I ordered, I do know I tore that food up. In a time of “let’s get crab legs” or only having burgers left, right and center, Habana Outpost was a breath of fresh air. Based on my old photos and the menu I somehow saved, I’d wager a guess that I ordered a grilled chicken breast bowl served with rice & beans, field greens, pico de gallo, salsa verde, sweet plantains, a side of chips & salsa and a frozen piña colada. All this for a little over $20. Of course it didn’t include the drink because you know everywhere charges you a pinky for it.

As of writing this post, Habana Outpost on Fulton is closed for the season and will return in April.

  • White Cheddar Burger With An Extra Special Sauce

Now my last post I gave you where to get a damn good burger in Manhattan. Now I’m gonna give you a recipe for a damn good burger. The White Cheddar Burger with an Extra Special Sauce is the truth. Before we jump into the meat let’s get into the potatoes. The wedges with the sauce alone is a 10 out of 10. If I had more potatoes for the sauce I could probably fill up on that alone.

    Ingredients

    • 10 Ounces Ground Beef
    • Potatoes
    • Potato Buns
    • 1 Yellow Onion
    • ½ Cup White Cheddar Cheese
    • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
    • 2 tbsp Ketchup
    • 2 tsp Dijon Mustard
    • Old Bay Seasoning
    • 4 tsp Cooking Oil
    • 1 tsp Sugar
    • Salt
    • Pepper

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Cut potatoes into ½-inch-thick wedges. Peel and thinly slice onion.
    2. On a baking sheet, drizzle the wedges with oil, sprinkle with salt, pepper and Old Bay Seasoning. Roast on top rack for 20-25 minutes until brown and crispy
    3. On medium high heat, in a medium sized pan, heat up a large drizzle of oil. Add sliced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and softened for 8-10 minutes. Add 1 tsp sugar and splashes of water until the onions are caramelized for another 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Move to a bowl.
    4. In a separate small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and Old Bay Seasoning (measure with your heart).
    5. Season ground beef with salt and pepper then form it into two equal-size balls.
    6. In the same pan from before, heat a drizzle of oil on medium-high heat. Add the beef and flatten with a spatula (Be Careful: oil may splatter). Cook to desired doneness (anything less than medium well and you’re a heathen), 3-4 minutes per side. During the final 1-2 minutes of cooking, cover patties with cheddar; cover pan to melt cheese. Remove from heat.

Optional but highly recommended toast your buns. Use some of the special sauce on the buns and save some for the wedges. Boom now you have a White Cheddar Burger with Special Sauce and a side of wedges.

    Still feel like cooking?

  • Music and Food Trucks? Count Me In!

As a fellow music lover, one of my favorite activities is to listen and dance to live music. I consider this a form of self-care and a super fun way to get some exercise in. It helps me decompress and shake off life’s stresses, which are very important to our overall wellness. I tend to use DICE to navigate artists and events that I’m interested in. I also use it to purchase tickets as well. Although there are many venues to choose from, I have gone to Elsewhere and The Brooklyn Mirage several times and can say that I have always had a great time. Both are located just walking distance from the Jefferson Street train stop along the L line in Brooklyn, New York.

After several hours of singing and dancing, you can end up pretty hungry and there are almost never any snacks available at the venues, or they can be pricey. The positive side to this though, is that there are always plenty of food trucks parked around the neighborhood. The options almost seem limitless. The trucks present often vary from Mexican, to Halal, to Jamaican, to Soul food, to American fast food and plenty more that I probably have not had the pleasure of trying yet. Good food trucks can be difficult to come by, so I would recommend checking out some reviews online if possible, before making a final decision.

I have only tried a handful of the food trucks around this Brooklyn neighborhood and have enjoyed my meals every single time. It is ok to give yourself the pleasure of having food truck meals! At the end of the night, if you are hungry and thirsty, it is only right that you replenish yourself, especially in the form of enjoying your after-dancing meal. Don’t forget to get a good night’s sleep afterwards to allow your mind and body to recover!

  • Spreading The Christmas Spirit At Bryant Park

It’s finally here, that freezing cold time of year. You bring out the tinsels and baubles and lights, and you pretend the end of your wallet isn’t here. The living room smells like pine (if you have a real tree). You anticipate the gifts you’ll get and try to ignore the amount of money spent on the ones you’ll have to give. It’s a joyous (mostly) time of year, one you get to spend with family and friends (maybe). All of you gather at someone’s house and sit around the tree. Oh, Christmas, that freezing cold time of year. You warm our hearts, by gathering us near.

There are a whole lot of things we can do together with people during this special time of year. And sometimes, it starts really early. Sometimes, the season starts in November, a whole month before December. It’s like Thanksgiving got skipped over, but honestly, the spirit of Christmas and Thanksgiving are really similar. Both holidays involve spending time with the people you love and trying to stay warm. So we’ll talk about spending time together at Bryant Park, just as I do with my friends.

Spending Time Together at Bryant Park

Bryant Park, located between 40th and 42nd streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues New York, NY 10018

is a public park. During the holidays though, it becomes a magical little village filled with lights, people, and vendors. There is food to be had and oddities to behold. The weather outside is cold, but after a while of walking, you’ll warm up. Bring those you love with you, and your heart will be full. There is an ice skating rink for everyone to slip and slide and land on their backsides. There’s seating for when everyone gets tired and tables to hold the food. Have fun together, and make those memories count. At the end of the day, you’ll be tired, but you’ll be warm and your heart will be content. Send the year away with the people you love.

  • Take a Bite Out of Mighties Burgers On Delancey Street

    Want another burger?

Hey y’all, let me tell you how an L turned into a W. When initial plans got cancelled and all hope seemed lost, Mighties came through with everything. After complaining earlier in the day about how nothing really tastes good anymore especially with the limited options where we live, Mighties burgers said “we’ll see about that”. If you don’t know where to look you might miss it. Walking on Delancey Street, you first have to walk into the Essex Market. Once you’re inside, make your way down to ‘The Market Line’ that’s where Mighties burgers live.

A burger that's almost finished being eaten.
Yes that’s my phone on the counter

Fresh from the stove, I ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, their signature mightiest sauce and a side of fries. When I tell you I was shocked at how good it was. Our chef/server for the night should be secretly selling burgers on their own and bump up the price. Not to mention they were incredibly kind enough to charge my phone for me (I was dying on 5%). But back to the burgers. Maybe it was the hunger but I don’t think so. I had completely forgot my mission to take pictures everything I eat for the blog. By the time I remembered the burger was basically finished. Mighties definitely made it onto the list that night.

If you’re in the mood for meats, you can pile them on, and if meat isn’t your thing, no worries at all. There are various soup bases and a galaxy of ingredients to choose from. As well as perfecting your go-to sauce from the sauce bar to dip your food into. My go-to sauce includes sesame sauce, peanut sauce, lots of green onions, lots of garlic, chili oil, chili powder, sugar, vinegar, fried onions and garlic. Wow, that is a mouthful, but so delicious. You can customize your dips depending on your palette.

How do I pick my liquid gold broth?

For my soup-based, I went with the mala and beef broth option, and let me tell you, it was an explosion of spice, and palate cleansing with the beef broth. I’m a fan of spicy food, but this took it to the next level. It was almost too hot to handle, but you know what? It was very much worth the heat. It’s like a fiery journey for your taste buds, and sometimes, a little extra kick is just what you need to warm up in chilly weather.
